Taupo Bay
Taupo Bay is one of my favourite beaches. Beautiful clear water, stunning bush clad headlands and decent surf. There is always a good laid back vibe at the campsite and the kids always seem to make news friends. Just had another lovely weekend there will the family. Read our full review below.

Location
Taupo Bay is approximately 50 mins north of Kerikeri on the East coast of Northland. Head north on SH10, then turn right onto Taupo Bay Road about 10 minutes before you get to Mangonui. Follow the road to the end and you get to Taupo Bay. The campsite is about 300m back from the beach.

Facilities
The kitchen is well equipped and there is a nice outdoor bbq area for socialiSing . The ablution blocks are clean and tidy and the showers are nice and warm ($2 for for 4 minutes) . There is a TV room and a great outdoor play area for the kids. There is a camp shop selling the essentials and barista coffee! At the beach there is another playground for the kids and in the summer there is a caravan selling, coffee, ice cream and gourmet burgers. I highly recommend all of the above.

Activities
If you are looking for coffee shops and wine bars, Taupo Bay is probably not for you. But if you are looking for a laid back beachside community then Taupo Bay could be your new favourite camping spot. Taupo Bay is a beautiful beach with gets decent surf and there is a beach launch for fishing and water sports. If you are staying for longer and need a break from the beach, Mangonui and Coppers beach are a 20 minute drive away. The Mangonui fish shop always draws a crowd but the Thai restaurant is also recommended. If you are looking for a decent bush walk the Dukes Nose (Kaiaraara Rocks) track in Whangaroa is a must. Unbelievable scenery and stunning geography. It is one of the best DOC walks I have done. Heading south on your way home? Spice grill Indian takeaway and restaurant in Kaeo is one of my favorites. Don’t be fooled by appearances - the food is amazing.
